This grant support the rebuilding and expansion of the Bard Prison Initiative’s (BPI) college and reentry programs for women at Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, NY. Students admitted to BPI become matriculated Bard College students and enroll exclusively in Bard coursework. The program incorporates a formal reentry component and culminates with the women receiving an Associate in Arts degrees
On June 2nd, 2015, BPI held its 13th annual commencement. This video highlights the first female graduate class from the Taconic Correctional Facility, a medium security women’s prison in Bedford Hills, New York that is operated by the New York Department of Corrections.
On June 11th, 2016, BPI held its 14th annual commencement and awarded diplomas to 30 students at Woodbourne Correctional Facility. This graduation video features the inspirational words of Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Executive Director Max Kenner ’01, Bard College President Leon Botstein, and the BPI Class of 2016.
