This funding will support the National Juvenile Defender Center, with the mission to promote justice for all children by ensuring excellence in juvenile defense. With this funding the NJDC will be able to continue its work to train juvenile public defenders, conduct research, support projects, advocate youth justice reforms, and assure court-involved young people have attorneys. In October, the NJDC released a factsheet, “Special Caution Required: The Realities of Youth Interrogation,” which shows that young people are especially susceptible to the pressures of interrogation and more prone to falsely confessing. NJDC will continue to advocate and spread awareness of pressing issues in the juvenile justice system.
