Founded in 1986, The Sentencing Project (TSP) is a research and advocacy organization that identifies the most pressing problems in the nation’s criminal legal system and translates evidence-based solutions into advocacy campaigns to address and overcome these issues. In recent years, TSP has made a strong commitment to being the national resource center for youth justice reform, including a focus on young adults up to age 25. It supports states that have already raised the age of juvenile jurisdiction, such as CT and NY, and promotes raise the age efforts in the last three states that treat 17-year-olds as adults (GA, WI and TX). This grant provides general operating support for TSP and its mission to promote effective and humane responses to crime that minimize imprisonment and criminalization of youth and adults by promoting racial, ethnic, economic and gender justice.
