Unchained was launched in March 2018 in Syracuse, NY by Derek Singletary, who is currently incarcerated in New York, and his wife, Emily NaPier Singletary Through community organizing and advocacy, Unchained brings two vital constituencies to its reform work: currently incarcerated people across NYS and people directly impacted by the system in Central and Western NY. Since launching, it has co-led and served as the upstate NY anchor for three statewide campaigns focused on bail and parole reform and connecting families to their loved ones through visitation policies and phone access. This grant provides general operating support for Unchained.
