Since 1967, The Fortune Society (Fortune) has provided individuals impacted by the justice system with the skills, housing and comprehensive supports necessary to break the cycle of crime and incarceration and thrive as positive, contributing members of society. In addition to providing these crucial services, Fortune launched the David Rothenberg Center for Public Policy (DRCPP) in 2007 to oversee its advocacy and reform efforts. Fortune prides itself on magnifying the voices of those affected by incarceration, and as such, nearly 50% of its employees have history with incarceration and over 80% are persons of color. In addition to these invaluable perspectives, Fortune also uses its extensive experience as a direct service provider and best practices from the social and criminal justice fields to inform DRCPP’s goals and work. DRCPP priorities include advocating for a fairer criminal justice system, promoting effective program models for people with criminal justice histories and changing counterproductive laws that perpetuate cycles of crime and incarceration. This general support will help Fortune expand its impacts and achieve its goals.
