Goodnation Foundation is a philanthropy platform and service that connects donor resources to urgent and compelling projects. The Fund for a Safe and Just DOC was put together by senior program staff at three foundations in collaboration with NYC’s commissioner of corrections. The goal of this fund is to hire a communications consultant to help create and frame messaging around the urgent need for reforms at Rikers Island. Fearmongering is a powerful tool used by opponents to reform of the criminal legal system, and this consultant will work to combat the narrative that progressive policy reforms lead to increased violence in communities and a decline in public safety.
