This grant continues support of the Tow Professorships at the CUNY Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism (Newmark J-School). Since 2014, the Tow Professorships have supported the projects of two outstanding faculty members for a period of two years each. This cycle, the awarded professors are Emily Laber-Warren and Alia Malek.
Laber-Warren is a long-time science journalist and serves as the director of the Health and Science Reporting Concentration. She has been a top editor at Scientific American Mind, Women’s Health, and Popular Science, and her articles have appeared in those and other publications, including Psychology Today and Newsweek.
Malek is a journalist and former civil rights lawyer and serves as the director of International Reporting Program. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Foreign Policy, NewYorker.com, the Nation, the Christian Science Monitor, Jadaliyya, McSweeney’s, Guernica and other publications.
